Meals on WheelsWhat is Meals on Wheels?
Meals on Wheels is a community service that delivers nutritious meals to your home with the help of volunteers. Meals on Wheels helps elderly/disabled individuals who are unable to prepare meals stay connected to their communities, remain healthy, and live independently, for as long as possible. The White Bear Area Senior Program has operated Meals on Wheels for White Bear Lake Area School District residents for 35 years. Community volunteers deliver meals at lunchtime, Monday through Friday. Several delivery/meal options are available. You may choose to receive meals once a week or up to 5 days a week. Extra meals for are also available for weekends and holidays. You may choose between hot meals, fresh, or frozen. Special diets are available including, but not limited to, diabetic, low cholesterol, and renal. Each meal provides a minimum of 1/3 of the current daily recommended dietary allowances and includes a beverage choice, salad, main course, vegetable, rice or pasta, bread, and dessert. Meals on Wheels bring more than a nutritious meal to your door. Friendly interaction with delivery volunteers also provides a safety check, peace of mind, and a connection with the community. Meals are provided at a reduced rate due to generous donations from participants, foundations, and the wider community, and also through support of the White Bear Lake Area School District, Consortium of Lake Area Senior Services, Ramsey County, Metro Meals on Wheels, local Lions Clubs and others. Additional financial support is available to those unable to afford the standard meal rate.
