Meet Dr. McDowell

Welcome to Sunrise Park Middle School! I'm Bob McDowell and I have the pleasure of serving as principal of this wonderful school.
When you visit Sunrise Park, you will experience a true community feeling enhanced by the excellent ever-changing student work lining the halls. You will engage in the excitement transferred from the entire staff who provide a world class education focused on the entire middle school experience of students.
As for me, I grew up in Winona, Minnesota where I spent a great deal of my free-time on the Mississippi river. Growing up I was involved in band, orchestra, football, swimming, and baseball.
I attended the University of Wisconsin-Stout and received a bachelor of science in Technology Education. I also hold a master of arts in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of St. Thomas, a specialist degree in Educational Administration from Minnesota State-Mankato, and a Doctorate of Education in Leadership from Saint Mary's University.
While I started teaching high school in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, I have taught traditional industrial arts classes, technology education classes, video production and engineering classes to grades six through twelve. I also coached football, swimming, and baseball. In addition to my 6-12 experience, I am an adjunct associate professor for Saint Mary's University.
Before coming to White Bear Lake, I was the assistant principal at Valley Middle School in Apple Valley, MN. My wife and I have three children and typically spend our time between gymnastics, baseball, and soccer. We spend a lot of our summers on the water swimming, tubing, skiing and fishing and our winters downhill skiing.
If you have any questions, please contact me at any time.
